If you live in the US and have a way to make it to Micro Center then you might be one of the lucky ones able to score a Ryzen 5600X3D for ~$230. This AM4 chip has six cores and 12 threads which run at a base clock of 3.3GHZ, boosting to 4.4GHz with 96MB L3 cache and a 105W TDP. The clocks are a little lower than the readily available Ryzen 5 5600X but that chip lacks the 3D V-cache which makes the X 3D lineup so popular.
This does make it an interesting chip, if you can get your hands on one. Tasks which do not take advantage of the extra special L3 cache are going to run more slowly than they would on the $150 Ryzen 5 5600X due to the lower frequencies. On the other hand if your applications do make use of the 3D V-Cache they should run significantly faster thanks to the extra 64MB of L3. This is also likely the last hurrah for AM4 chips, if you already have a compatible motherboard and haven’t upgraded your CPU in several generations then it might be worth a trip to Micro Center on July 7th … if you are in the US.
