You Will Have To Wait Until April To Buy Some New 3D V-Cache Though
AMD have announced a new generation of chips with 3D V-Cache, and we are getting a peek at what the performance of the Ryzen 9 7950X3D. The FPS Review chose to focus on gaming performance, which makes sense as that is exactly what this CPU is designed for. It’s not that it is bad at general computing tasks, just that there are better choices for the occasional gamer. However if your primary use is gaming then pay attention to these reviews.
The Ryzen 9 7950X3D comes close to matching the i9-13900K across the board, with a few exceptions like Rainbow 6 Extraction which prefers Intel and F1 2022 which is definitely an AMD fan. When ray tracing is added to the mix the new chip outperforms the previous generation by a significant amount, but not enough to unseat the i9-13900K for overall top spot.
The Ryzen 9 7950X3D comes with an MSRP of $699.99, which doesn’t compare favourably to the i9-13900K’s MSRP of $589. However the actual street price of Intel’s flagship can be higher than that which could make AMD’s offering more attractive.
